All patients with SLE with any degree and type of disease activity should be treated with hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, unless these agents are contraindicated. Glucocorticoids or other immunosuppressive agents that may be used include mycophenolate, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, or rituximab.
