🩺 Full Newborn Examination – Before Discharge

Use this at 24–48 hours of life before routine discharge.

🧠 General Observation

• Posture: Flexed limbs? Hypotonia?
• Color: Pink, jaundiced, cyanotic, mottling?
• Movement: Symmetrical, spontaneous?
• Cry: Strong vs. weak or high-pitched?

🧑‍🦲 Head & Scalp

• Shape: Molding? Caput succedaneum? Cephalohematoma?
• Fontanelles:
  • Anterior: Open, flat, <3 cm
  • Posterior: Small or closed
• Sutures: Overriding or widely separated?
• Hair & scalp: Any scalp hematoma or swelling?

👁️ Eyes

• Position/Symmetry: Hypertelorism, ptosis
• Red reflex: Bilateral and symmetric (Absent → cataract, retinoblastoma)
